Bonus Ball Sale to Stop from July
10-Jun-2008

Contact our new Fundraiser if you owe any money.

Dear Bonus Ball subscribers,

Sale of Bonus Ball will stop from July this year. The last draw will be on Saturday 12th July (as this is a date when one person has paid up to). The reason for this is that it is not making enough profit for it to be worthwhile continuing.

Anyone who owes money for this should give it to me on a Friday or Sunday evening at Bucksburn Pool.

Positions Vacant for Treasurer, Membership Coordinator and Vice President
31-May-2008

The incumbent treasurer and membership co-ordinator to stop volunteering their time from end of June.

The AGM held on 28 May 2008 elected new committee members for year 2008/09. But it could not elect new Treasurer, Membership Coordinator and Vice President.

Despite the repeated request sent to the parents to attend this critical AGM, the number attending the AGM was very poor. Most important of all no one had registered to volunteer for these positions.

It is worth emphasising here that the roles of membership coordinator and treasurer are very critical for running the club. Without them there is no up-to-date membership records and no one will be there to deal with money matters, e.g. fee collection and bill payments. Without them the club will then cease to operate.

Therefore in order to give a breathing space to club, the incumbent treasurer (Hridaya Thikey) and membership co-ordinator (Karen Burgoyne) have agreed to volunteer until the end of June 2008. They will not play their roles after that date. This is the period during which the Club has to find these positions.

Interested parent should contact the new president Sheila Hick or secretary Neil McPherson. Their contact details are under the Club Committee section on this website.

The Club Annual General Meeting is on Wednesday 28 May 2008
15-May-2008

All parents/guardians of Club swimmers are invited to attend and take part in running of the Club.

The Bucksburn Amateur Swimming Club is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 28 May 2008 at 7.45 p.m. in Beacon Centre, Bucksburn (opposite Bucksburn swimming pool).

All parents/guardians of Club swimmers are urged to attend the AGM. The AGM agenda includes the presentation of swimming and financial reports. But most importantly you will be electing a new club committee to run the Club for the year 2008/09.

Please take note that the incumbent president, vice-president, treasurer and membership coordinator, who have been serving the Club for many years, have indicated/decided to step down from the committee. These are the core members who play vital role behind the scene and without them the Club will cease to operate. Therefore in order to maintain the Club and take it forward, it is highly critical that the new parents/guardians come forward to take these and other positions within the committee. The full list can be seen on the website by navigating to Club Committee page. At AGM all committee positions will be up for grabs.

If you are interested to serve in the committee then please let Sheila (current President) or any other committee member know about it and do attend the AGM. You can also send an email with your name and address and the position that you are interested in to: admin@bucksburnasc.org.uk who will pass the details to the committee.

Do take note that - No committee means No Club and No Club is not good news for our children.

Burma: How you can help?
09-May-2008

The cyclone in Burma has killed tens of thousands of people and left up to one million homeless.

A national British appeal was launched today to raise money for the aid effort in Burma.

The major overseas aid charities say they will join forces and co-ordinate their fundraising and emergency relief efforts due to the extent of the disaster and the dire need of the Burmese people. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), the umbrella group which represents the 13 biggest aid charities and co-ordinates major disaster appeals, will run the campaign.

There have been fears that the charities would struggle to spend a large sum of money effectively due to restrictions placed on their workers by the military dictatorship in the country. However, three big charities already have extensive networks of aid workers in place in Burma. The Red Cross alone has 17,000 volunteers in the country in a network run by the Myanmar Red Cross. Save the Children and World Vision also have a significant presence in the country.

The cash raised will go towards not just emergency shelter and food, but reconstruction and rehabilitation afterwards.

More on how to make your donation is at the BBC site:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7389735.stm

You can also make your donation direct by visiting: http://www.dec.org.uk/ and by selecting Myanmar Cyclone Appeal.

Aberdeen to receive £5m for its proposal for a 50m swimming pool.
18-Apr-2008

Aberdeen and Edinburgh will be the first recipients of millions of pounds in 2014 Commonwealth Games Legacy funding

Aberdeen and Edinburgh will be the first recipients of millions of pounds in 2014 Commonwealth Games Legacy funding, it has been announced.

Aberdeen City Council is to receive £5m for its proposal for a 50m swimming pool.

However, this is subject to a "detailed, affordable, business plan".

Edinburgh will receive an extra £1m to add to the £4m already allocated for the refurbishment of the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell said the funding was through the National and Regional Sports Facilities Strategy (NRSFS).

'Absolutely fantastic'

Mr Maxwell said: "This investment underlines this government's commitment to Scottish sport and our aim to make the most of our 2014 Commonwealth Games legacy.

"Scottish swimmers have excelled in recent years - not least at the recent world short-course championships - and they deserve the best training facilities to allow them to reach their full potential."

Aberdeen City Council leaders Kate Dean and Kevin Stewart said in a statement: "We are absolutely delighted with the news of the Scottish Government's commitment to the 50m pool.

"The city council has already committed £10m of capital funding towards this project and £100,000 of developmental funding committed by us and the University of Aberdeen.

"It is absolutely fantastic that we will have a facility like this on our own doorstep to nurture home-grown talent who will follow in the footsteps of world-class athletes like David Carry, Robbie Renwick and Hannah Miley."
